Liz Lovely Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookie

I’m a big fan of gluten free products as gluten along with other grains can be inflammatory to your system. Most people think though that gluten free means the food is totally healthy, and that isn’t always the case. They purchase the item without thinking about the other ingredients, assuming it all has to be good for you. The gluten free chocolate chip cookie from Liz Lovely Bakery in Waitsfield, Vermont comes in a package of two. The serving size is one half cookie with just that half containing 190 calories. I don’t know many people who would eat just half a cookie, much less not eat both cookies in the package. Therefore, one whole cookie is 380 calories and both cookies would be 760 calories. You decide how much you would probably eat and do the math. Each 190 calorie serving contains: 8 grams of fat, 4 grams of saturated fat, 125 mg of sodium, 31 grams of carbs, 17 grams of sugar, 1 gram of dietary fiber, and 1 gram of protein. That’s quite a bit of sugar in this cookie as it is the top ingredient here, meaning that sugar is the largest ingredient in this product. Rice flour is number two.
The appearance of this cookie is not very appetizing. It is a pale color, almost looking like uncooked cookie dough. A taste is similar to its appearance, again, uncooked cookie dough. It is bland, and much too sugary sweet. The chocolate chips are not bad, but just ordinary. If not for the chocolate the cookie would be much worse. So, gluten free-yes, but too much sugar, poor texture, poor appearence, and poor taste. This gets 1 star for “Is it good”, and 1.5 hearts for “Is it good for you”. TheDessertDoctor.com
